Books I Have Read

When my two sisters and I were young, living in Iran, we did not watch TV – we read instead. We read a lot of books. We would save all our pocket money to buy books so we could make a library among the three of us.

We inherited the love for books from my father. I remember he would wake up early every Friday, the Iranian day off. He would sit himself at the garden summer table, pick a rose from the garden and lay it next to his plate, and he would have his book of poems by Rommi or Hafez open on the table. He would read while having his breakfast, and as we would come to the garden, he would offer us the rose to smell and hand us the book so we could read to him aloud while he was eating. He loved to read and we girls learned the love of reading from him. Now that I am living in California without my two sisters, without my father, now that decades have passed and the world has changed so tremendously, I have still remained faithful to my love of reading. I decided to give up watching TV so I could have the time for the books I love to read. I made that decision twelve years ago, and since then, I have read many books. As I read them, I entered them into my file. Here they are. I would like to share them with you, and I would like to tell you about what they gave me and how they made me feel every time I update my blog.
